Volkswagen are putting the new Bulli concept vehicle into production after popular demand for a replacement for the class Volkswagen Type 2. Volkswagen’s classic Type 2 which was first introduced in 1950 and was commonly known as the Transporter or Kombi, has become something of a cult, and they are finally bringing in a long awaited successor in the Bulli.
While Volkswagen never stopped producing their vans, like the T3, the 1990 Multivan Allstar, and the 2004 Volkswagen Transporter model, none of these vehicles matched the original Type 2 for style or presence. Finally Volkswagen have introduced a model that not only has a quirky look that goes some way to bringing the old personality of the Type 2 into the modern era.
The good news is that the new Bulli design is all rumoured to be going into production, with an estimated release date in 2014. While the new Bulli is a rather small vehicle, and probably not the easiest base to ever convert to a fully fledged campervan, we can only hope that Volkswagen Bulli is just the start of a new range from VW, that will eventually lead us to a new campervan that matches the style of the classic Type 2.
