Buckingham palace is a great place to visit on a motorhome holiday and is a major attraction in it’s own right but is also in a great location for Central London, Big Ben, Downing Street, Trafalgar Square and many of the great places to visit in London are close by including Hard Rock Cafe if you are feeling hungry.
Buckingham Palace was originally built in 1702 and after a few changes of hands became the Queens residence In 1774 when it was known as the Queens House. Although Buckingham Palace is now much bigger than it was in the past and has seen many changes it is still remains almost identical at the front from how it was 300 years ago with the same balcony which is still a main feature when special events take place.
Queen Victoria was the first monarch to live in Buckingham Palace in London in 1837 and it has remained within the royal family since that time. Queen Elizabeth and her husband Phillip the Duke of Westminster now reside there. The Royal family also use Buckingham Palace in London to entertain important guest who visit the country such as the president of the United States.
The Palace is home to some of the most famous paintings in the world such as Canaletto, Claude and Rembrandt and some of the finest English and French furniture that can be seen in not only London but the world and is mixed amongst other breathtaking things to see, if you are lucky enough to be visiting London in late July to September on your Motorhome Holiday.
When visiting Buckingham palace in London on your motorhome holiday it is well worth taking the time to see the changing of The Guard, you can even have your picture taken standing with a guard for free if you hit Pall Mall which is just past St James Palace through the courtyard and then to your left.
Then finally when the day is over and you are feeling tired and hungry why not head into the centre of London for a meal or a drink at one of the capitals many Pubs and restaurants.
